The Lopez Conservatory Program

Overview & Philosophy

  • WHO WE ARE

Here at Lopez Studios, Inc. everything we do is guided by our Four Founding Principles:

Character: Producing positive qualities and attributes that shape and prepare students for effective purpose.

Integrity: Producing students who make sound decisions by a firm adherence to a code of moral and artistic values, which include honesty and virtue.

Discipline: Producing students who have an appreciation for an honest work ethic, as well as order and self-control.

Service: Producing students who learn the value of giving back to their peers, family and community.

These founding principles guide how we teach and work with every student and cast member. These are the ideas and concepts we encourage within our cast to not only help with their development in the arts but also as people.

  • WHAT WE DO

We believe in excellence, in our work and in how we treat each other. We encourage the cast to respect themselves, each other and the process to achieve the most out of the program. To achieve excellence, we use our Founding Principles, Artistic Agreements and Rules of the Theatre .

    Artistic Agreements:

    1. Be Impeccable with Your Word
    2.  Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth, love and acceptance.
    3. Don’t Take Anything Personally
    4. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of endless suffering.
    5. Don’t Make Assumptions
    6. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.
    7. Always Do Your Best
    8. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy to when you are sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid regret.

    Rules of the Theatre:

    1. The Rehearsal Room is our Sanctuary
    2. We believe that whether you’re rehearsing in a theatre, a room or outside in a park, you should treat the rehearsal space with respect.
    3. The rehearsal room is where we create the magic that is seen onstage. It’s where we bring the characters to life.
    4. Only enter the rehearsal room when you are ready to work and participate in the process, everything else should be left outside.

    Be Ready to Work

At Lopez Studios, we believe that to achieve and grow as a performer you must always be ready to work and give your best. Be open to the process.

    Leave it at The Door

You may feel sick or tired but we encourage our cast to bring each other up and giving your best even when you don’t feel it.

    Always Listen and Communicate

    1. Listening is an important part of theatre. Acting is reacting. Always listen to your directors. They are here to help you improve and grow and it is important to listen to their instructions.
    2. Don’t be afraid to communicate, if you have a question or a concern use your words so that the director can help you.
    3. Listen to each other. You’ll be surprised what you can learn by listening to your cast members.
    4. Have Fun!

At Lopez Studios, we believe that theatre should be a fun experience as much as an educational one. Enjoy the experience, it’s a privilege to be able to perform even in rehearsals so enjoy every second.
